Finding Happiness (After Becoming SingleD)

Image
by Nancy David Galang, M.A. "Happiness is not trying or finding, it's deciding." - Osiris I know that many singleD people out there are like me --- nag-aakala na hindi na sila muling magiging masaya. Paano ko ba hinanap at patuloy na hinahanap ang happiness ko? Ang title ng blog na ito ay "Finding Happiness." To find means "to get or discover something or someone that you are looking for" (merriam-webster.com).  So this means ang salitang "find" ay isang verb. One has to take action to get it. Pagkatapos ng isang hindi maganda at masalimuot na experience, we have to make that decision to move on and be happy once again. When I got separated almost 5 years ago, I thought that it was the end of the world for me. Yes, para sa mga hindi pa naka-experience ng major heartbreak (like ang mahiwalay sa iyong asawa at ama ng apat mong anak), I just want to let you know that it is not an exaggeration kapag sinabi ko na parang guguho ang mundo mo. The Wapakels vs. the Dying Breed: A Tribute to my Daddy friends

Image
"Dads are most ordinary men, turned by love into heroes, adventurers, storytellers, and singers of song." - Pam Brown So it was the first Father's Day without my dad .   Normally, my siblings and I would communicate days before to plan how we will celebrate these family occasions. This time, I knew that we all felt "nangungulila," remembering our dad quietly, sadly, and still wishing he was here so we can hug him and kiss him - and address to him the line "Happy Father's Day."   This year I had only my male friends and brothers to greet.   Somehow, greeting my daddy friends, who I believe are good fathers, made me feel a little better. Parang I see my dad in each of them.  That was how I spent last week's Father's Day. Yes, my dear Nan-sis, this blog may seem to be a little late, pero talagang iniwasan ko ang mag-emote nung araw na 'yun kaya I did not write about my dad.  Naisip ko lang, masayang malaman na maraming tatay ang gaya ng ta...

Happy na, Birthday pa! (SingleD and BlesseD)

Image
By Nancy David Galang, M.A. "The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." - Oprah Birthday ko na naman pala in a few days, mga Nan-sis! How time flies and how years keep adding to my age just like that! Also, it's my second pandemic birthday - just like some of you na nakadalawa na ring quarantined celebrations sa bahay. Hindi ba, parang kailan lang nang nabalitang magla-lockdown, then naging totoo. Tapos we all thought sandali lang, 'yun pala lalagpas pa ng isang taon! How much longer, none of us know. Nasaan nga ba ako nung ilang birthdays ko? 2017, I think my dad treated us (whole family with my siblings and their kids plus mine) for dinner at Saisaki. T his was my first singleD birthday. I did not want to celebrate. But Dad said treat niya. I guess alam n'ya I would probably just choose na magmukmok sa bahay habang umaasa pa na may isang tao na babati sa akin (char!) and then everything will be alright again. Unang bi...

When It's Time to Give Back

Image
By Nancy David Galang, M.A . "At the end of the day, it's not about what you have or what you've accomplished, it's about who you've lifted up, who you've made better, it's about what you've given back." -  Denzel Washington There was probably a time when some of you found yourselves in bad situations and you needed help in order to survive your day. There was a guardian angel who saved  you. Getting you out of that bad situation and helping you overcome that problem to survive that day. And when this angel comes along, you will never forget the good deed he/she did to you. You will be forever grateful. I am blessed to encounter such people in my life. Karamihan mga kaibigan ko. Minsan kapamilya.  One of them was ...
